The grade 4 students are learning about the impact extreme weather has on people. As a finding out activity the students played 2 scenario games online to learn about some of the different types of extreme weather.
As a reflection, they were asked to describe the cause of the extreme weather, possible dangers, and elaborate on how we can prepare ourselves.
Rinne “In an earthquake one plate in the ground will shake in a different way. Sometimes a tsunami will happen after an earthquake. The road will break and some people underground will be in danger.”
Nico “Hurricanes are made by warm air and warm water. The water fuels the hurricane. In January there is no warm water so hurricanes cannot form. Possible dangers are if there is something hard outside like a bike and the hurricane has started, then the bike might crash in the house. The second danger is if you run out of food and you need to buy food before the hurricane is not over. We can prepare by putting all hard things in the house and over up your windows before the hurricane comes and stay in your home.
