The children come into contact with the subjects “animals and food” on a daily basis. They cook meals in the play kitchen, build farms and zoos, do puzzles and art projects, talk about their pets, learn songs, create objects with play dough, go shopping, look at books and eat their bentos ! After a while their awareness increases and they are starting to ask many questions. This curiosity is the trigger for going deeper into the subject.
In the Pre-Kindergarten room we have many BOOKS, among them a good amount of ERIC CARLE books with lots of animals to be found. The children love to look at them and have the teacher read them out aloud. They also love the book "Eating the Alphabet" which features fruits & vegetables from A to Z. The children discovered many new items in the book. They also showed great interest in the variety of animals and asked questions about the food the animals eat.
Soon the children started to make connections and demonstrated deeper understanding by matching animal figurines and food objects or pictures.
