The Pre-Kindergarten children really love the game “Animals upon Animals” and after the toucan (which we went to see on an excursion), they soon found another favourite animal: the penguin !
The children started playing with the penguin figurines and we made a fun penguin sumo game and colourful penguins. We also tried our skills at playing a balance game with penguins on an iceberg.
While reading a lot of books about penguins the children started to wonder what they actually eat and where they live. We then discovered that penguins eat fish and lived mostly in ice and snow.
We started to decorate the walls with some icebergs and soon found more animals that lived in the same conditions as penguins and also ate fish like seals and polar bears. As all our kids love art, we made some amazing prints with a fish sponge including really sparkly scales !
Then came a big surprise! Even snow rabbits live in these harsh, frosty surroundings and they survive just on grass and moss. What an amazing thing to learn!
Making fluffy snow rabbits was an enjoyable fine motor skill activity that rounded up our amazing display.
The children showed great interest in the animals they had learnt about and did not really want to part with the panorama.
It was great to see that a subject would hold their attention for so long and that they would ask about it again and again!
Great inquirers, Pre-KG kids !
