For the end of our unit on culture, the Grade 1 and 2 students were tasked with creating a Cultural Mini-Museum to share with others what they had learnt about the similarities and differences between the different aspects of culture such as food, clothing, homes, stories, music/ instruments, games, sports, holidays and celebrations, etc.
To help with our inquiry into culture, the first and second grade classes paid a visit to the National Museum of Ethnology, or Minpaku as it is called in Japanese. The museum has a huge collection of cultural artifacts from around the world and the students spent their time there researching different countries of their choice.
Our second unit of the year focussed on, “How We Express Ourselves” and the various ways that different cultures show who they are.
On Friday, December 1st the Grade 2 students had a special guest teacher join them during PE time. Scarlett’s dad, Andy Ellis joined the lesson in order to share a bit of New Zealand culture with us.

It has been a busy first week for us in Grade 2 as the students have been busy working and playing together. We’ve been doing some activities to help us get to know each other, our classroom and our teacher a bit better. We did a scavenger hunt for things around the room, and played “Find someone who has…” Bingo, as well as drawing our self-portraits to show who we are!
To celebrate our last day together as a class, and as the summative activity for our Celebrations unit, the Preschool students planned and prepared their own year end party.
For the final unit project of the year, the Preschool students worked together to use what they had learnt about how transportation systems are organized.
