For the final unit of the year, the Preschool students worked together to use what they had learnt about how transportation systems are organized. After having visited the Rokkoliner, Kobe Airport, and the Sunflower Ferry the students were eager to take on the challenge of creating transportation systems not only for within their own mini-city, but between three different cities as well. The cities were separated by various landform features such as oceans, mountains, and rivers and the different groups had to come up with the best ways to overcome the obstacles and find ways to connect the people who lived in the different cities.
Within their small city groups members had to work together and used communicating and problem solving skills to find solutions to how they would connect people and places within their cities. Then they decided on what needed to be built to help get from one place to another and looked for ways to connect the different transportation systems. They used air, land and sea systems to get from one place to another, just as we do in the real world.
