As part of our year-long inquiry into Celebrations, the Preschool students have been learning about how different cultures celebrate the new year. When they asked why this year is the year of the Rooster they discovered that naming the years after an animal isn't only a Japanese custom but one that originated in China.
For some of our art lessons in January, we looked at different types of printmaking techniques. By glueing different materials onto a cardboard printing plate, students could create relief prints of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac! They really enjoyed this, as well as preparing a short play about the order of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals, which they will be presenting at the assembly on March 1st! Hope to see you there!
