Art at Pre-Kindergarten is very hands on ! The children experiment with different media throughout the year and in their first unit “Colours and Shapes” they already used pencils, crayons, felt pens, water colours and finger paint. They improved their fine motor skills by holding various utensils or just their hands for ripping paper into small pieces. Slowly they are getting used to scissors and they are ever so proud to show off their new skills!
So with Christmas season around the corner, the Pre-KG children were ready to take their art projects to the next level.
“Christmas Craft for the Community” was the motto, so the children started to make Christmas cards, showing amazing patience and a good sense of spacing. Soon we were able to hang up an array of beautiful cards, some sparkling in the light from the glitter so enthusiastically applied. We also crafted some salt dough ornaments which can be purchased at our school’s Christmas market as well.
A new challenge was the group painting for the RI university church project. The children were very eager to paint a snowman each and now being used to brushes, did a fantastic job. The snowmen show each child’s character including the individual hats they chose. Looking at the endearing drawing makes us really yearn for snow !
Happy start of the festive season to everyone !
