German Christmas Market on Rokko Island
Saturday 19th ~ Friday 25th December 2009 Rokko Island Festival committee has kindly organized this event to welcome our school to the new premises on Rokko Island, hoping that we can deepen cultural exchange between Germany and Kobe. (We have participated for the first 5days of the event.) We were selling a fixed number of cookies and cakes, 70 bags a day, baked by our school parents. Our stall was managed very well by our students, we sold them all within a couple of hours each day. It was a real success ! Sincere thanks from school to the parents and students for sparing their precious time to prepare cookies/cakes and participating in the event during the busiest time of a year. Home made German cookies and cakes sold at 300yen each Our school sponsor HABA's stall was next to us creating children friendly atmosphere. It was such a nice work experience for our students and they all really enjoyed it.

The German Christmas Market is now considered a symbolic winter event in Osaka which runs for more than one month. St Martin Clebration Sunday, 15th November 2009 5pm ~ In many countries around the world, people celebrate on the 11th of November St Martin’s Day. The Legend says that around 300 A.D., there was a Roman soldier called Martin who shared his warm coat with a poor, scantily clothed beggar, who asked him for help from the freezing cold. With one stroke, Martin split his coat in two and gave one half to the beggar, who was then deeply grateful to him. Martin left the military service and then became a Christian so he could help people in need. A second legend says that Martin hid in a stable filled with geese rather than become a bishop because he did not feel worthy of the title. People looked for Martin everywhere and they used lanterns to light their way. This tradition is remembered by a lantern procession, which normally takes place on the 11th of November around the world.
