The children in the European Kindergarten are from 3-5 years of age, and come from all over the world. The curriculum followed is the IBO PYP programme, which the children spend two years studying before they graduate to Pre-school. Over the course of two years, students will study 8 PYP units that provide a platform of inquiry into the main transdisciplinary themes of the PYP.
When the children arrive in the morning they can choose from many different activities in the classroom such as construction from blocks, colouring and drawing activities related to our current unit of study, puzzles, games, writing and flashcard work. This time offers the students some choice in their work and enables staff to interact with children on an individual basis and give guidance and attention as necessary. From there we move onto Morning Circle where we learn about the day, date, weather and what special activities we will be doing that day related to our current unit.
Time is also allocated to the following activities on a daily, weekly or monthly basis; show and tell, outside play, story time, arts and crafts, cooking, sports, music and movement. We also study math and language in relation to our current unit of study as well as independently.
The children also enjoy participating in all school events and go on trips with their friends in the German Kindergarten on average once a month.
As we place the highest importance upon social development, our programme offers students the opportunity to take responsibility for themselves, their environment and to take into consideration the needs of others. Children also develop a sense of their place within the school community as a whole, through their interaction with students in other grades and their participation in school assemblies.
We offer a well-rounded and balanced curriculum which places emphasis both on academic learning and development of social skills, excellent supervision from our team of dedicated and committed staff and a fun and creative learning environment. As a result we enjoy watching the progress and development of our students as they explore and grow in a truly international environment.
