Grade One has been busy learning about Recycling/Reducing/Reusing, focusing on the Lines of Inquiry:
- The limited availability of the earth's resources
- Personal choices that help the environment
- Reusing and recycling different materials
- Reducing waste
As part of their learning, they have looked at trees and their importance. They made excellent connections and identified the crucial role that trees play in our lives; from helping keep the air we breathe clean all the way to providing the paper we use everyday at school.
Grade One made good use of the paper recycling bin in their classroom and got to test the paper making process. They realised that although not quite as smooth or fancy as new paper, it is possible to recycle paper. They even made excellent connections to their very first unit that making paper a long time ago must have been extremely difficult and time consuming.
The images below show the various stages that Grade One took in producing their own paper.
