Preschool Sleepover 2017
On April 20th, the Preschool, Grade 1 and 2 classes had their annual sleepover at DESK.
Upon returning to school at 6pm, the students set up their bedding for the night before getting ready for dinner. On the menu this year was pizza and a green salad that the students helped prepare. The Preschool students took turns to carefully cut the carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers for the salad. While eating dinner we watched the movie Ratatouille!
After dinner came the highlight of the night, playing Flashlight Tag outside on the playground and then Hide and Seek in the dark inside the school!
Then it was time for bed. Everyone washed up, brushed their teeth and changed into their pajamas. Before lights out they had a bit of time to relax and read stories quietly. For many of the Preschoolers, this was their first time to sleep away from their parents so we had many risk takers in the class. Despite a few "I miss my mommy" and "I can't sleep here, I need to go home," all were able to fall asleep eventually and slept very peacefully through the night (even through Mr. Brabant's loud snoring!)
In the morning, when Mr. Brabant woke up there were 5 or so students forming a semi-circle and staring down at him and warmly said "Good morning Mr. Brabant" with a few giggles mixed in. We managed to stay in our room quietly for another 45 minutes or so until 6:30. Once everyone was up we began packing up our bedding and got ready for breakfast. For breakfast we had some yogurt, cereal and orange juice and everyone was happy to sit together with their friends for the first meal of the day.
After getting tidied up and changed, we joined the Grade 1 and 2 students out on the playground for a bit of fun before the start of another school day. I think many of the students are already looking forward to next year's sleepover!
