To celebrate our last day together as a class, and as the summative activity for our Celebrations unit, the Preschool students planned and prepared their own year end party.
To help with the planning, Moa's mom came in as an expert Party Planner and explained how she plans and prepares for parties. The students then worked with a partner to come up with a proposal for what type of party they would like to have. In their groups, partners had to decide what theme the party would have, what snacks and drinks to serve as well as what kind of games and activities and decorations. Partners then presented their party plan to the rest of the class. Originally we were going to vote on which party plan was the best, but as many of the plans had similar ideas, we tallied the most common suggestions instead and then broke into 3 different groups to organize snacks, activities and decorations.
The snack team went shopping with Ms. Rose to buy the agreed upon snacks and drinks for the party, while the activity team prepared materials for games such as Bingo sheets and other games to play while the decorating team was busy making streamers and other decorations to put up around the classroom. All 3 groups did a fantastic job, and on the last day of classes we all enjoyed celebrating together outside with a water balloon fight, swimming in the river and then Bingo and snacks in class at the end of the day. Great job Preschool! Good luck in Grade One!
