To make sensory play even more fun, Early Years students tried their hands at creating rainbow rice. Their first attempt was with dye and water, the second with dye and mirin, but neither of those combinations worked, the rice sticking together into clumps and failing to hold a vibrant color. Their third try, with dye and vinegar, was successful!
Once the rice dried, the children used funnels, spoons, tweezers, and other self-invented tools to scoop up the rice, pouring it into containers made of different materials. It was a great review of last years Materials Unit too! What sound does the rice make hitting glass, wood, plastic? They showed they remembered their vocabulary, and had a blast making rainbow cakes, sushi, and more.
