Celebrating our new building!
The Deutsche Schule Kobe/European School community celebrated the opening of its new campus building on November 29 with various figures of the local community. Joining us were Consul General for Germany, Dr. Kohler from the German Consulate Osaka, Hyogo Prefectural Representative Mr. Masazawa, Kobe City Councillor Mr. Yasui, Goethe Institut Head Mr. Manke, Hyogo International Schools Association Representatives Mr. Cai and Mr. Aishin, Iwamura Atelier Representative Ms. Iwamura and Kakino Construction Company President Mr. Kakino.
The children of DESK performed songs in German, English and Japanese to welcome the school community and invited guests. Preschool to Grade 5 performed "If You're Happy and You Know It" in three languages, and Grade 5 to Grade 8 performed "Obladi Oblada" with Grade 6 student Zeke playing the drums. The audience could feel the positive, warm energy of the children.
Two students from the middle school, which is housed on the 2nd floor of the new building, gave a bilingual speech sharing their experiences as students in the open space classroom.
Lu and Celina spoke about their favorite parts of the new building, how their studies are going and how this year is different for the middle school students because of the new space.
Many of the guests and their companies supported our school in making the dream of the new building into reality, and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work.
The Consul General for Germany, Dr. Kohler, congratulated us on the opening of our new building as a milestone in the school's long history. He had many kind words for our diverse community and encouraged us to continue growing and developing.
Following the performances and speech, the PTA hosted a reception for all members of community with delicious food and drinks. It was a beautiful ceremony commemorating a historical time in the Deutsche Schule Kobe/European School's history. Thank you all for contributing and joining us on this momentous occasion.
