The Pre-Kindergarten children have been on a learning journey discovering the world full of shapes inside and outside the classroom. They were ready to express their newfound knowledge through a multitude of art projects.
The circle is a familiar shape for the children. When asked what it looks like, they responded with “bus” (meaning the wheels on the bus from the popular song) and “doughnut” !
So we cut some paper circles which the children decorated with dots in their favourite colours.
The dots were made with a stamp pen which was not easy for the children as they had to hold the pen in an upright position.
After several tries, they became quite good at it.
FELT HEARTS with SHINY STARS
While doing the shape puzzle, the Pre-Kindergarten children were asked what their favourite shape was.
It turned out to be the heart shape with star coming in second.
We decided to make a craft using soft and hard materials and both shapes. While some help was needed to cut the soft felt, the children glued all the stars on by themselves, turning the hearts into lovely ornaments.
At the end of our unit on the life cycle of living things, the Preschool class visited the Itami Insectarium. The children had an opportunity to see many different insects at different stages of their life cycles.
